You can save a massive amount of money by doing it yourself - and it can be a very rewarding hobby as you try the many different homebrew and winemaking recipes.

Home made wineLong time ago wine was made only by individuals, who were fond of this, and whose families have been working on it for years. Then wine become a big industry and big companies started producing this product in big amounts. We cant say that the quality of the mass produced wine is bad, absolutely not, there are lots of great wines produced now. But there are still lots of people, who think that only home-made wine is the best and tastes much better than any other wine, even the most expensive.

Its amazing, but enthusiasts and amateurs, who are making wine at home, are not only making it for their own use and for their friends and families. Despite the fact that world standards for wine are constantly rising, some home made wines have such exclusive and high quality, that they are worth sharing with other people and showing them off with pride. For example, in England, treating guests with home made wine is an important tradition of hospitality. Guests usually appreciate such welcoming with home made wines, even though sometimes they can be very strong and you should be very careful to not lose your head.

If you are thinking about starting your wine making business, or just about making some home-made wine for your personal use, start by planting grapes and collecting them. Other option is to collect grapes on the fruit orchards. Some wines can also be made from fruit concentrate that you can buy in winemaking stores. When you are using wine concentrate from a store, you can mix different wine concentrates, collected from different parts of the world and prepare a very unusual blend with great taste of international wine flavor. Wines that can be home- made can be white of red, or rose. You can make dry or sweet wines, depending on what you like more. Wine making at home is a great activity for you and your family that will keep you busy almost all year round and will add some more family feelings, especially in those evenings, when you are opening the first bottle of wine all together and tasting it.

Basic home winemaking ingredients

  • Sodium-Potassium
This chemical is used to disinfect wine and sterilize all the winemaking equipment.
  • Yeast Nutrient
This nutrient will add all the necessary vitamins that will help the process of fermentation.
  • Acid blend
Usually citric, tartaric or malic acids are used, or their combinations. They help raise the acidity of your wine. When you are adding acid to raise the acidity level, first measure the current acidity level of your wine, and then count, how much acid you need to add.
  • Sugar
You can use regular sugar, the same that you use to drink tea. But don’t use brown sugar. Measure the sugar level, when adding sugar to wine.
  • Water
Use only good and clear drinking water, as it will affect the quality of your wine a lot.
  • Tannin
Grapes skin gives tannin. Red wines usually have enough natural tannin, but fruit wines will require you to add some more tannins, as they give wine a special taste.
Regular black tea might be used as wine tannin.
  • Finings
    Help clarify the wine.
